The Servant of Two Masters
Director: Scott Schwartz
Opens Saturday, July 7 at 8:30 pm in the Mary Rippon Theatre (Preview, Thursday, July 5)
“First I’ve got no master,
now two! Why not? I’ve got talents,
now it’ll be two paychecks—and
I’ll eat double too.” So says
the irrepressible manservant, Truffaldino,
as he doubles the trouble and doubles our
fun in one of the great classic commedia
dell’ arte plays of world drama.
The crafty clown forgets whom he’s
told what, and sets more than one trap
for himself. In the process, and quite
accidentally, he ensures the success of
two love stories. As Truffaldino
joyously somersaults
from one near crisis to the next, the play
comes down resoundingly on the side of
life.
